2013 Mary Blackwell Barnes Memorial Scholarship
On behalf of Women in Public Finance, Virginia Chapter, we are happy to announce that there is a scholarship available to female students who are of rising sophomore to graduate level status with an expressed interest in the field of public finance. Through the scholarship, our organization hopes to bring awareness about careers in public finance, whether through work in government, nonprofits, public law, or finance itself. The scholarship will provide the recipient with an opportunity to network with women established in the public finance arena, as well as recognize the recipient for her scholastic and leadership achievements.
Our scholarship is called The Mary Blackwell Barnes Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship is named in honor of Mary Blackwell Barnes, a dedicated servant of public finance. Mary passed away in 2009 at the too-young age of 44, but her memory lives on through the contributions she made to public finance in Virginia. Throughout her 20+ year career in public finance, Mary was a great example of hard work and a positive, confident attitude. Our scholarship will honor Mary through recognizing similarly motivated female students.
The minimum qualifications to apply are restricted to female students who are returning to a Virginia or District of Columbia college or university in the fall. Applicants may be undergraduate or graduate level students.
The scholarship will be paid directly to the award recipient’s educational institution to pay qualified educational expenses on behalf of the award recipient.
Feel free to email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and a member of our committee will follow up with you by phone. We hope that this scholarship will give us an opportunity to mentor to female students and provide them with opportunities to explore careers in public finance.
